It's been a funny couple of months...
...for the joint Sunday team.
After our win against Newlands and Northwood on 29 May, we had won four out of six matches, and were looking forward to the summer. After that, alas, things seem to have gone awry for the team. The three matches we managed to complete saw a win and two defeats. Two games were abandoned due to rain, and three cancelled - one due to a waterlogged pitch, the others because, frustratingly, we couldn't raise enough players.
On a positive note, we have begun our Dukes Chess Valley League Division Eight campaign. The first match was cancelled due to an early June monsoon, but since then we have posted a good win against Abbots Langley, and a narrow defeat against Harrow St.Mary's. The team are in league action again this Sunday - the first of six consecutive league matches - at St.Albans.
The league table at present suggests that Ickenham and Crouch End Calthorpe might be slugging it out for the title, albeit CEC have only actually played one match, ten of their fourteen points coming from opponents cancelling or cancelled games. Nonetheless, with three teams promoted, there is genuinely all to play for. This is the time for people to put their hands up for a Sunday hit and support the joint team - and hopefully we will have a promotion to celebrate come September.
