Yes, it's promotion!
The league season ended as it started, with rain preventing any play at Ickenham; the resulting two points were enough to secure promotion, albeit unfortunately not as champions. Not that you'd know this from the Chess Valley League's website, which still doesn't show our result from 28 August. (Actually, it does now; we came third - KW).
Congratulations to all those involved in the league and friendly matches this season, but especially to Callum as the successful skipper. He has truly united the team, who played some great cricket under his leadership. Our best wishes to him on his forthcoming trip to Griffith, Australia ("the marijuana capital of Oz" - Ray Collins) - hopefully 24 hours' of potential DVT won't make his injured foot any worse...
Also congratulations to those from the joint side who won awards on Saturday night:
Player of the Year - Callum Cusack
Batsman of the Year - Mark Wembridge
Bowler of the Year - Paul Plummer
Clubmen of the Year - Dave Malin, Mark Wembridge
Tea of the Year - Great Missenden Pelicans (with mentions in dispatches for Ashford, Crouch End Calthorpe and Wimbledon United).
Finally, we have two matches left this season: a visit to the bucolic charms of Hare Street and the Hormeads this Sunday, and a trip to the less-bucolic Boxmoor on Sunday 17. Please give both games your fullest support.
