Johnston takes advantage of schizophrenic Vandals

Isambard 285-8 (40 overs) (S.Johnston 114, R.Collins 44, S.Codling 39 not out, S.Munn 36).  Weybridge Vandals 99 all out (26 overs) (M.Lindsay 4-13, Collins 2-4).  Isambard won by 186 runs (40 overs)
Schizophrenic Vandals.  No, not the latest product of Broken Britain (© the Daily Mail), or a Peel-championed punk band from 1978, but rather descriptive of the on-field performances of Olinda "“ now Weybridge "“ Vandals.  We'd played them twice before today; one match was a taut psychological thriller with a cat's arse-tight finish, one was a thrashing by us of a very weak opponent.  This match was firmly in the latter camp.

Sunny Munn and Ray Collins opened the batting, putting on a partnership of 63 before both perished in a short space of time.  This brought in Steve Johnston, who fulfilled his potential with a maiden Isambard century.  He was ably supported by Kiwi "˜keeper Simon Codling, who took the opportunity to top up his career average with an unbeaten 39.  After Johnston was out, Codling and Nick Tuohy put on an unbroken 36 runs for the ninth wicket before the forty overs were up.

In reply, Vandals had no answer to the ASBO bowling of Mat Lindsay, who took 4-13; this and a run-out left the visitors 25-5.  Vandals' No.7 "“ the scorecard calls him Realititelli, although I suspect that's not the name on his birth certificate "“ then tucked into some change bowling to post 37, before unaccountably getting out to Paul Danbury.  Collins wrapped things up with a brace against the tail, before Isambard retired to the bar, and a job well done.
